Bald Mountain Lookout Restoration

US Forest Service

Verdis restored a historic lookout in the Sawtooth National Forest for use as a vacation rental through the USFS popular lookout rental program. The project included restoration of cabinetry, removal of lead paint, abatement of asbestos floor tiles and polishing of the concrete floor. Verdis replaced existing siding and roofing with custom-hewn cedar shingles, refurbished the windows and replaced windowpanes. The electrical conduit was demolished and replaced. Cracks in the concrete deck were repaired and the surface was sealed. Verdis sanded and stained all existing wood railings and stairs. Challenges on this project were immense, from scaling 9,200 feet in elevation to deliver supplies and perform construction, to battling unpredictable weather patterns.
