Sandy Young is the President and Principal Land Use Planner at Verdis. Sandy has over 40 years of experience in public outreach.
In 2007, after years in the public sector, Sandy and her husband, Gary, launched a landscape architecture/land use planning firm e2 planning & design. In 2011, they expanded their services to include civil engineering and changed the name to Verdis – Latin for green, to represent Gary’s love of landscape architecture.
Gary passed away in 2015 and, as sole owner of the company, Sandy became eligible for and was accepted into the SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program. Verdis expanded into heavy civil and vertical construction and the company’s territory grew. In just five short years, Verdis’ reach has expanded to 14 states west of the Mississippi, including Alaska and Hawaii, and the company has been awarded over 150 federal/state projects.
In 2020, services expanded even further to include masonry restoration. Verdis is recognized as a leader in historic renovation projects for clients such as the National Park Services, the GSA and the Army Corps of Engineers. Verdis is also certified as a Minority/Woman Owned Business in Washington and Idaho.
Sandy is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science. She currently sits on the Board of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce, Kootenai Land and Resource Conservation Trust, North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation and Panhandle Parks Foundation.
In her free time, Sandy enjoys horses, biking, skiing, kayaking and running.
